I’m not a big Formula 1 fan hey, but i do appreciate watching a race now and then. I know plenty of you love the sport though and if you’re also into gaming then you won’t get much closer to experiencing being behind the wheel of a F1 McLaren or Ferrari than by playing F1 2014. The realism is fantastic and the simulation so jacked that driving the cars without any of the driving assists enabled is as difficult as what i imagine driving the real thing is. And i’m not even kidding…i crashed. A lot. If you’re looking for a realistic experience though that requires precision and practise then keep reading because i’m gonna giveaway an Xbox 360 and PS3 copy of F1 2014.
I didn’t go into the career mode and basically drove a few tracks with the driving assists on and then switched them off to see the difference.
The lowdown: Formula 1 racing simulation. All cars and drivers from the 2014 season. Steep learning curve, but as realistic as it gets.
Here’s the gameplay trailer to give you a taste of what you can expect.
Right and now my 2 cents.
Presentation: graphics are outstanding and especially in the race replays. Detail, lighting, environmental effects and sound are very impressive. Nothing like watching a replay of you driving in slow motion down the main straight in the rain as a rooser tail of water shimmers in the sun..only to spectacularly underbrake at the corner and smash into the railings…bit’s of the car flying everywhere. Well that was me most of the time anyways
Gameplay: when i say it’s difficult, im not kidding. If you’re a newcomer then brace yourself for a steep learning curve and plenty of crashes. The cars handling is super sensitive and finicky and it takes a while to get used to smooth cornering, braking and the traction control. And that’s with the assists turned on. Turn them off and..ya good luck with that. Once you got it down though you can slowly decrease the amount of help and put in a decent lap time.
Lastability: Not much has changed since F1 2013, but if you’re looking for a challenge then it’s perfect for you. Especially the lengthy and highly detailed career mode.
Final thoughts: great visuals and realistic driving experience. Too realistic for rookies like me actually since the handling requires precision and skill. Gets an ok 6.5 out of 10 on the vroom vroom scale.
Right…now one of you is gonna walk away with a Xbox 360 copy of the game and i’ve also got a PS3 copy to give away.
